||Winter annual that braches at the base with lobed, heart-shaped,
|| Cotyledons are round to oblong and thick. Base oc cotyledon
is notched where it meets the petiole. Hypocotyl is initially green but
turns purple with age.
|True Leaves and Stem
|| Leaves are opposite, prominently veined, and crinkled with
soft hairs on upper surface. Lower leaves are petiolated and upper leaves
are sessile, deeply lobed, and encircle the stem. Stems are square and green
to purple in color.
|Flower and Fruit
||Pink and purple flowers are produced in April, but alsom may be present in November and March.
Flowers are in whorls at the axils of upper sessile leaves. Flower sepals are united to form a tube with five teeth.
Fruit (nutlets) are egg-shaped, 3-angled, and have white spots. Plants can produce around 200 seeds.
